Brief Information On 02 March 1955, Claudette Colvin was arrested at the age of 15 for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, nine months before Rosa Parks' more widely recognized act. She was one of the four plaintiffs in the federal court case Browder v. Gayle, which successfully challenged the constitutionality of bus segregation in Alabama. Colvin's early stand against segregation contributed significantly to the momentum of the Civil Rights Movement, despite her story being less publicized at the time.
